How To Find A Sunscreen That Suits You Best!

SHOPEE 3 _1_

If you’ve clicked into this story, chances are that you know the importance of applying sunscreen. To reiterate, sun exposure is the biggest contributor to premature skin ageing. Ultraviolet (UV) rays damage skin cells and result in signs of ageing such as hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and even cancer. While we go out less thanks to the work from home arrangement, UV rays can still penetrate cloud cover and windows. As such, it is wise to apply and reapply sunscreen daily (yes, even when it is raining).

Not every sunscreen works for every skin type though. It is important to find one that suits the needs of your skin. For example, people with dry skin would love a sunscreen that has moisturising benefits while the same formula might not be agreeable for someone with an oily skin type. In addition, those who wake up with dull skin after a night binge-watching Korean dramas might prefer a sunscreen with brightening qualities.

This is where Espoir Water Splash Sun Cream comes in.

Espoir is a brand created by Amorepacific, a Korean beauty conglomerate who are behind notable brands such as Sulwhasoo, Laneige and Innisfree, just to name a few. Ululada retails two Espoir sunscreens - the Espoir Water Splash Sun Cream Fresh and the Espoir Water Splash Cica Tone Up Sun Cream.

The Espoir Water Splash Sun Cream Fresh is a hydrating formula containing camellia sinensis (green tea) water. Great for hot humid weather, this non-sticky sunscreen imparts a cooling sensation upon application and protects tired skin from the external environment. This sunscreen also has a green tint that aids to colour correct any redness and flushing and leaves a matte finish while providing skin with hydration.

On the other hand, the Espoir Water Splash Cica Tone Up Sun Cream is made with a Cica Selection Complex (centella asiatica extract, green tea water, cypress water and tea tree leaf extract) that soothes and protects skin from external aggressors. It has a light pink tint that brightens the complexion and doesn’t leave a sticky feel whether it is used on the face or body. High refractive oil and orchid reflective powder also helps impart a natural glow. The Sun Cream is a water gel emulsion formula that keeps skin refreshed all day long while providing strong protection against UVA and UVB.

Both sunscreens have a SPF50+ and PA+++ rating so you can rest assured that they will protect your skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays. They are also free of eight harmful ingredients - animal-based ingredients, mineral oil, polyacrylamide, imidazolidinyl urea, triethanolamine, synthetic colourants, PEG surfactant and talc. The sunscreens have also been primary skin irritation tested.

These sunscreens also double up as makeup primers and can help foundation last longer without white cast or smudging.

Now that you know which Espoir sunscreen that best suits you, here are some sunscreen best practices:

  • Sunscreen is the last step of your morning skincare routine and should come before makeup application.
  • Wait a few minutes after applying sunscreen to apply your makeup. This allows the sunscreen to properly form a sun-protecting barrier.
  • Even if your makeup has SPF protection, you still have to apply sunscreen first.
  • Do not mix sunscreen with makeup. Apply them separately.
  • Use a cushion puff to reapply sunscreen over makeup and use patting motions to prevent messing up your makeup.
